Today Andy took us "cross country" (on secondary roads) to one of the local Stately Homes, Chatworth House.
We started across the countryside
Chatsworth House is located in the Derbyshire Dales near Bakewell. It is the seat of the Duke of Devonshire and has been the home of the Cavendish Family since 1549. the house is located on a 35,000 acre estate
The taller square on the left side is the original house built by Bess of Hardwick, after her 2nd husband, Sir William Cavendish purchased the land with it's original home in 1549. After he died in 1557, Beth finished the home in the 1560's and would live there with her 4th husband George Talbot, the 6th Earl of Shrewsbury. In 1568 Talbot was given the custody of Mary, Queen of Scots and she was his prisoner several times over the years. Check Wikipedia for more information.

There is a huge art collection on display at the house
